About Birch Bay Bible Community Church: We are an established church of 76 years in Birch Bay, WA and part of the Mennonite Brethren Denomination.  We have recently moved into a brand new campus.  Birch Bay is a growing community and so is our church. We serve and worship with many diverse denominational backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures.  Our Small Groups are called LIFE Groups and it is our desire that all people of our congregation would be involved, growing and experiencing a Christian life within a group.

Job Description:  The Associate Pastor will serve on the Pastoral Leadership Team.  The primary task will be to build our LIFE Group system in the church for the purpose of helping us develop passionate followers of Jesus.  The Applicant needs to be familiar with Nelson Searcy’s book Activate as we structure our system from this model.  Currently our LIFE Groups are on a seasonal rotation (3 sessions of 12 week semesters) with times of training, larger fellowship times, retreats, and rest in between.  The LIFE Group Pastor will oversee and continue developing a culture of Groups in our church having responsibility to:

  1. Equip, Empower and Support LIFE Group Leaders to live openly as disciples of Christ, cultivate healthy groups, deal with conflict, offer care and support to their group and celebrate with them and the larger church family
  2. Lead at least 1 life group per semester
  3. Oversee planning and implementation of adult and family retreats
  4. Oversee Adult Sunday School – provide teachers and curriculum, incorporate into LIFE Group/Adult Ministries structure
  5. Building a culture of outreach and service within the groups to the Birch Bay and beyond Community
  6. Work with Lead Pastor and Leadership Team to strategically look at how to coordinate teaching on Sunday’s with what is happening in LIFE Groups
  7. Oversee the Adult Ministry/Life Groups budget,
  8. Embrace the core values of life groups, which would include times of prayer, biblical study, evangelism, and service
  9. Be available to preach on occasion and provide some counseling when needed in association with lead pastor and Elder Team
  10. Seek to upgrade skills through seminars, conferences, and formal training
  11. Willing to fully integrate into the Mennonite Brethren Denomination,
  12. Become licensed with conference
  13. Become a member of Birch Bay Bible Community Church
  14. Support and be consistent with our MB Confession of Faith

 

Qualifications:

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ that results in a life lived in obedience to the will of God as described in the Bible
  • A passion for people with commitment to enhancing the community experience at Birch Bay Bible Community Church
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and empower volunteer leaders in healthy ways which promote their spiritual growth
  • Visionary leader; forward thinker; self-directed
  • Responsible self-management that reveals genuine servant-hood, faith-centeredness, and spiritual stability; willing to be accountable to the Lead Pastor
  • Excellent communication and listening skills – ability to consistently encourage and support others
  • Genuine servant leader with eagerness to release volunteers and see them succeed
  • Effective written and verbal communicator who consistently encourages and supports others
  • Spiritual gifts of leadership, administration and teaching
  • Demonstrated willingness to continue learning; teachable spirit

 

Experience:

  • Preferred three years experience in successfully leading life group ministry in growing church environment
  • Preferred three years of proven ability to develop, lead, and motivate volunteer teams
  • B.A. or equivalent experience required
