The Payroll Administrator helps empower CRISTA to meet its mission by supplying great payroll and finance support and excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. The Payroll Administrator is responsible for all CRISTA payroll functions as well as ensuring payroll functions are performed accurately and in line with company policies and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Payroll Administrator will provide effective leadership with respect to all related systems, records, internal controls and processes of the corporate payroll and retirement plan related function.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Payroll Administration:
Provide leadership with respect to CRISTA’s HR/Payroll system and is considered a system expert including system upgrades and/or replacement. Provide necessary training to other users of HR/Payroll system as needed. Proactively develop, implement and enforce strong internal controls over CRISTA payroll and retirement plan systems and processes ensuring they are followed. Analyze and audit payroll and benefit related procedures and processes to look for ways to drive continuous improvement. Resolve payroll discrepancies through research and analysis.Responsible for providing excellent service and innovation to ensure internal customers’ needs are met. Lead and manage annual 403b retirement plan audit process. Keep current on payroll laws and regulations and taxation and adjust processes to ensure compliance as necessary.
2. General Ledger Accounting:
Ensure all payroll and benefit related journal entries are posted to the GL accurately and in a timely manner. Review payroll and benefit related GL accounts for accuracy and reasonableness and prepare adjusting/correcting journal entries as needed. Research and respond to payroll related inquiries from internal customers during the monthly close process and prepare adjusting/correcting journal entries as needed. Accurate and timely preparation of assigned payroll, benefit and 403b related reconciliations and other GL duties as assigned. Prepare schedules/reports as assigned that are needed for annual audit or tax returns. Complete and file Payroll related tax returns. Provide back-up coverage for other Accounting personnel as assigned.
3. Payroll Processing: Perform CRISTA payroll functions accurately and in a manner that is in line with company policies and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Payroll functions include:
Process new hires and input staff changes, including benefit changes, into the payroll system.
Transfer data from timekeeping systems into payroll system.
Review preliminary payroll reports for accuracy and reasonableness.
Enter payroll adjustments into payroll system as needed.
Prepare EFT file for submission to bank.
Process and distribute checks in a timely manner.
Be the main point of contact for the CRISTA payroll area for internal customers.
Create and maintain ad-hoc payroll related reports as needed by internal customers or for CRISTA’s business needs.
Prepare requests for payment for CRISTA employee benefit vendors.
Prepare and submit appropriate 403b retirement reports to CRISTA’s third party administrator.
4. Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers and customers.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Christian Commitment:
Strong personal faith in Christ, demonstrated in behavior and attitude.
Education:
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
5 or more years experience with proven ability to process payroll efficiently and effectively in a high volume, multi-state environment.
Demonstrated accuracy of data entry skills in a high volume environment.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated skill at internal control design and compliance, including benefit plan controls and payroll taxation.
Proven ability to clearly document and communicate processes and procedures.
Experience implementing a new timekeeping and payroll system.
Experience using complex Excel spreadsheets, database, financial and application software.
Experience using query tools and report writers.
Software and Equipment Used:
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
Experience with Ultipro or other payroll system.
Other Considerations:
Exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers and customers.
Willingness to learn.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.
Experience:
7 or more years experience with proven ability to process payroll efficiently and effectively in a high volume environment that included employer benefit plan deductions, multi-state requirements, as well as familiarity with overseas staff payroll.
Experience implementing a new payroll system.
Licensure/Certification:
Certified Payroll Professional
Software and Equipment Used:
Experience using various financial/payroll systems.
